There are 4 ways to get from Bangkok Airport (Suvarnabhumi) to Khaosan Road, i.e. by shuttle bus, private transfers, public taxi and train. Below you will find the details of each transportation method and which one is the best option.

1. Shuttle Bus

The S1 Bus doesn’t go into Khao San Road but it takes you to the Phra Nakorn area, which includes Khao San Road, Phra Arthit Rd, Samsen Rd, Lan Luang Rd and Sanam Luang. So once you reach the destination, you will have to walk for another 10-15 mins into the Khaosan Road itself.

3. Public Taxi

Similar to private transfers, getting a public taxi to Khaosan Road is also one of the most preferred choices. This is because it’s comfortable and you can enjoy a ride along the way, passing through the Bangkok city and downtown areas. The public taxi operates using a taximeter.

Skip any driver who refuses to use the meter as this is one of the common scams tourists face with taxis in Bangkok. Grab is also available right in front of the Suvarnabhumi Airport gate, and cost slightly higher than the metered taxi. However, you can feel safe and comfortable with Grab than the regular the taxi.

Below are the details for taking a taxi from the Airport:

  • Average cost: THB 300- THB 500
  • Travel duration: 40-45 mins
  • Seating accommodation: AC, comfortable seat
  • Suitable for: 1-3 passengers with not more than 2-4 luggage as most of the taxis are Sedan cars.
  • Additional information: The public taxis are available on the level-1 of the terminal.

4. Train

Last but not least is to take the Airport Rail Link (ARL) from Suvarnabhumi to Khaosan Road. Although it’s relatively cheap, it’s the least preferred way of transportation as you will still need to either take the bus or a taxi from the station to your destination, which takes another 30 mins.

To get from the BKK Airport to Khao San Road via the ARL train, here are the steps:

  1. First, take the train which is available on level-B of the terminal. Look for the sign and board the train to the Phaya Thai BTS Station.
  2. Next, get off the train on the last station and here, you can either take the taxi or the bus to Khaosan Road. To take the taxi, simply just call for any one of them available on the road.
  3. To take the bus, walk to the right for about 600 meters where you will find the bus stop. Take the bus number 59 which will take you directly from Phaya Thai Station to Khaosan Road.

Below are the details for taking the train to Khaosan Road:

  • Average cost: THB 45 for the ARL, THB 100 for the taxi or THB 16 for the bus.
  • Travel duration: 30 mins from the Airport to Phaya Thai BTS Station, then another 20 mins to Khao San Road via taxi or 40 mins via the bus.
  • Seating accommodation: AC, less comfortable seat and sometime you need to stand as there are no available seats left
  • Suitable for: Passengers with 1-2 luggage max.
  • Additional information: The train is located on the B floor of the terminal
